When you register a trade mark you are the legal owner of that trade mark and you have exclusive rights to use that trade mark. By registering your trade mark you are protecting against imitators of your brand. A trade mark can be any 'sign' to consumers that the product or services that they're buying originates from a unique source. In most cases trademarks are business names, logos or phrases.

Many people think that by simply registering a business name, domain name or company name they are protected and this is not always the case, especially when you expand into new geographical locations.  You should register your business name as a trade mark so that no-one else can use the same business name.
